John Reiter was happy to see his pocket Kings hold up against his opponent’s AT. The final board read and although he picked up a pair on the turn, it was not enough and the shorter stack was sent packing.
John chipped up to ~120,000 and has jumped out to an early chip lead here in the Deeper Stack.

Deeper Stack players are taking their first break of the day.
One former Ladies Event champion who opted to play in this event today rather than the Ladies event is Jane Gold. Jane won the 2012 Winter Poker Open Ladies event and back then the field was massive — 100 entrants — and 1st was good for more than $10,000.
She’s probably best known as the mother of 2006 WSOP Main Event winner Jamie Gold, but Jane can play poker as well. She’s got one WSOP cash on her list of poker accolades.

Tommy Bates started the day in the Seniors event, but his appearance in that event was cut short. After running Queens into Kings, he got the last of his chips in with pocket deuces and came up empty.
He’s faring better in this event. On a flop of it was three-bet between Tommy (cutoff) and the player in the small blind. Then the
came on the turn, making a flush possible, all the chips went in.
The small blind was ahead with for top two pair and had out-flopped Tommy’s
, but neither player had hearts. Tommy had the bigger stack so was not at risk of elimination, but would once again be short-stacked.
Then the completed the board, giving Tommy a straight and the pot, while felting his opponent. Tommy’s up to more than 70,000.

The third trophy event to get underway today in the Event Center is the Deeper Stack, which gives players even more chips with which to work. Everyone starts with 35,000 and the first 15 levels are 25 minutes long, then they go to 30 minutes for the duration of the event.
Late registration and re-entry are available until the start of level 11, which should fall about 4:55pm. As with the Seniors and Ladies events, this is a one-day event and will play until a winner is determined.
