The board runs out clean for Whiting {3d}{9d}{4s}{jc}{ts} and his sixes hold up to earn him the pot and the double up. Although Maritinez’s stack took a hit he is still in great shape with nearly 200,000 still left after the hand.

Miguel Martinez was one of the largest stacks in the room here in the early morning hours of Day 1B. With just two hands left in the night he got involved in a big hand with Chris Laieta. The end result was much of Martinez’s stack being shipped to Laieta who bagged the Day 1C chip lead. Although he was able to put 72,000 in the bag he is giving it another shot and is fairing quite well on Day 1D. Martinez just scored a double elimination holding top two pair and is now over the 100,000 chip mark as he looks to improve on his Day 1C results.

The Day 1D field continues to grow and we are seeing many familiar faces fill the Event Center. One such player who is no stranger to Borgata success is Kane Kalas. He has joined the Day 1D field and is hovering close to the 50,000 chip mark.
Kalas had his largest career score here in September of 2014 finishing runner up to Darren Elias in the WPT Borgata Championship earning over $500,000.
Since then he has went on to notch plenty of tournament cashes all around the world. Theses include a deep run in this very event in September where he finished in 8th place. Kalas will look to improve on the finish and looks to add his first major Borgata title to his extensive poker resume.

Abdul Shamma was just involved in a preflop raising war resulting in Shamma moving all in. His opponent made the call for his last 26,000 putting his tournament life at risk and the hands were shown.
Shamma: {td}{th}
Opponent: {ah}{kc}
The dealer fans the {4h}{5h}{2h} and it’s a good flop for the all in player picking up the nut flush draw along with a gutshot straight draw. The turn brings the {ts} and Shamma turns top set of tens and is just one card away from scoring the elimination. The river {6c} seals the deal for the Shamma and he adds to his stack while sending his opponent to the rail.

Billy Pappas raises to 2,000 from under the gun and it folds to the player in the big blind who reraises to 6,400. Pappas makes the call and they go heads up to the {ts}{ac}{ad} flop. Both players quickly check and the dealer burns and turns the {5c}.
Again both players knuckle the felt and the {4s} completes the board. The player in the big blind checks and Pappas throws out a bet of 8,000. His opponent calls only to see Pappas table {as}{jh} for trip aces which is good to earn him the pot.
